Supa Blogg

Mini Proposal: Complete a 700 word (120 words per paragraph, 5 paragraphs) proposal for making improvements to the blog component of the course before I use it again.  For the intro describe the problem.  For the thesis, tell me what the solution is (its fine if it is a list that represents the topic sentences of the three body paragraphs

I think that the blog was a good idea. It let everyone get to know each other from another perspective. Just doing the blog every week with deadlines made it to complicated. As soon as the semester became more active I kind of lost touch with keeping the blogs all on schedule. Since everyone gets on the social sites having a class page from one of them is not a bad idea at all. We can easily go on their and post something. I do not know but it is like social sites are addictive. It can make everyone reply to the activities more. Giving us a reason to really do the homework and looking forward to completing it. It gets interesting but then it gets boring.

I think the question are more responsive and it helped me work on my structure. Just going commenting back and forth i lost touch of that to. We should brainstorm more in class about everything the topic is pertaining to. Brainstorming and using every ones ideas to make your own helps you better your judgment from everyone else. The readings are very helpful but some of the questions was to overwhelming sometimes. It is not bad keeping up with it if you think out the box.

The timing was not so bad. Just it was to much every week. I managed to get most of it completed. Just sometimes when you get lazy and then theirs all kinds of homework you have to do. It can get very nerve wrecking trying to maintain every ones site all at one time. Each teacher has a site for different things and some things are time consuming and it just makes everything hectic. But I had fun when it first started. We should just have a mixture of a freestyle and brainstorming blog. Like the freestyle can be on any topic that you want and the brainstorming can be a mixture of lessons from class.

The commenting back and forth it was helpful when the topics are confusing and controversial. I just stopped because sometimes the time was not there. I wish some of the topics were focused on freestyle and half on school. But the blog theme was nice and I did not mind doing it. Yes. you should keep using blogger. You can give them topics to write on and they can prove their point and see which one is more important. Just focusing on what can help their writing skills embraced. A lot of things can help them out when they can be comfortable and write strongly. Having some freedom of writing what you think but in a responsible manner can get everyone participating equally.

The pros and cons out weight each other a little bit. It can also balance out. They can stop doing it because they do not have the time or they just do not care. And the positive outcomes from the new site would give them time to figure things out with more time like a blog one a week. So that would give them time when they have free time to do their blog in a timely manner. That gives everyone happy grades and they can express themselves more than  in a time consuming blog. The experience is nice when you are a person that likes expressing themselves out loud. This semester of doing the blogs was something new that i have not done before. It reminds me of twitter a little bit.

Week 13 Post

My problem is the lack of service that they have on campus. It is either internet service being down or cell phone service being out of reach. It affects everyone that needs access on campus and the students that use on a daily basis. Some students can not turn in their assignments, cannot get in touch with their relatives or other people they need to talk to, and you can loose out on homework time, because soem teachers post their assignments online. My solution to this problem is better service systems or putting satallites on soe buildings between the places where the service gives out the most.

Week 12

1.
In  1. paragraph 8, Claitor writes, “The other teacher acted like an ass”.  Could this be because the other teacher was mismanaging his frustration that stemmed from dealing with the same problems affecting Claitor?  Yes I think he mismanaged his frustration and he should not of did that because he is not the only one going through that. If these teachers were to get together and propose that the university make some changes, what do you imagine the changes would be? Specifically: I think that they could of made something happen.
                     a.       Thing one they might propose: They might propose the classroom space.
                                                               i.      And the chances of it actually happening with regard to cost, time frame, or other considerations. It might not because they have little funds to start of with.
b.      Thing two they might propose:  Classes being canceled.
                                                               i.      And the chances of it actually happening with regard to cost, time frame, or other considerations. They probably can manage classes if they use the space wisely.
2.       How do the problems that Claitor describes about her work affect the students that she teaches? It affects the students a lot because they have students that want to learn and make something out for themselves. And they can not because of the schools resources going to nothing.

3.       If these students were to get together and propose that the university make some changes, what do you imagine the changes would be?  Specifically:
a.       Thing one they might propose: Adding on more classes.
                                                               i.      And the chances of it actually happening with regard to cost, time frame, or other considerations. It can happen if they argue to the right authority.
b.      Thing two they might propose. For the English classes back
                                                               i.      And the chances of it actually happening with regard to cost, time frame, or other considerations. It could happen but the money is short they would have to mangage the division of it.
4.       What are the causes of the problems that Claitor describes?  funds are short, They are trying to do to much to the school and they  do not care about how it affects everyone else.
a.       What other causes might there be for the situation? They do not care.
b.      What arguments might be made by someone opposing Claitor’s argument (Rebuttals and backing)? That teachers sometimes do not care.
5.       How do looking at the causes individually (analyzing part by part) help you think (or rethink) about what to propose to the university: It helps me realize what some teachers really go through.
a.       On the part of the teachers? Getting paid less and classroom space
b.      On the part of the students? not getting the proper learning environment
(add any additional thoughts here, rather than going back to revise those sections)

Week 11 Scenario

1) No i do not think that person is intelligent because they cheated on their test and did not put potential in their school efforts at all. An intelligent person puts effort and apply knowledge into what they are doing.

2)Bill gates was a drop out of school but they have a lot of intelligent people that do not go to school and they know how to use their talents wisely.

3)No, that decision was not intelligent. We see people that are very intelligent and they do not think with their minds half of the time. Like people that are intelligent and they can not afford to go to school as for people who are intelligent and waste their time in school. it might affect the criteria if it is not based on how intelligence changes its appearance.

Monday Nov. 7 Online Class Assignment

1.       After reviewing the information about the drafting introduction on page 3, review your own intro and decide what you can do to:
2.       I can make the intro paragraph sound more professional. I can be more prepared of the ideas that I have planned out and make the paragraph more presentable.
3.       Review your topic sentences of your body paragraphs:
a.       Whether you are doing org. plan 1 or 2, your topic sentences should contain the criteria that you are discussing in the paragraph.  (Review bottom of page 4 and all of page 5).
b.      Yes my topic sentences are focusing on everything that my paragraph is talking about.
c.       If you have any main topic sentences (do at least two here) that don’t contain the criteria of your definition that you are about to discuss in your paragraph, paste the old sentence, then write the revision of it that you will change in your next draft, like this:
                                                              i.      OLD SENTENCE:   Basically you can forget about all the ideas and knowledge that you have learned to get the degree.
ii.      NEW SENTENCE   You can forget about all the ideas that you have learned :now with criteria clearly stated so we know what to expect out of this paragraph
iii.      Doing the minimum amount of work that is needed is just putting you in the crowd that is doing things just to get by
iv.      The work that is needed on a successful scale is putting you above the people that do the minimum to pass by.

4.       Now, go through your body paragraphs and make sure that in the evidence sections of them, you are “developing” the criterion you are discussing, which means: explaining/defining each criterion for your definition.  By the end of your paper, we should be able to tell a) your definitions, b) the criteria for those definitions, and c) the definitions of those criteria. (Look at page 5, description of BP1).
a.       Find your shortest body paragraph.  This is a quick way to determine which one needs more development.
b.      Paste it in.
c.       Then paste in a revision of it that contains more details and explanations of the criterion under discussion.
5.
Even professionals that were not serious about earning a degree but we still call them professionals. They get degrees to say that they just went to school and did not waste their time. But at the same time they did because their mind was not set and made up. They made a decision to just stick it out and get that piece of paper that would make everyone proud of them. In order to get knowledge you just have to embrace it equally.
They have professionals in this society that has degrees and they do not know what to do with it. Some have many degrees and they do not know what they want to practice in. Forgetting about some of the lessons that you have learned is one of the hardest possibilities that can happen. Some get degrees and they practice and do very well in it because they  did their time at school and was not playing around at all. If you embrace everything equally then the outcome should be sufficient.

6.       Look over one of your rebuttal areas.  If you have one (and you should; “considering the opposition” or “other viewpoints” is on the rubric) look for a way to revise it to be more developed, if you don’t have one, make one now to add into your next draft.  Review page 6 and the ways that you 1) acknowledge opposition to your argument, 2) but prove how the opposition is not strong enough to invalidate your argument.
a.       Paste in the old and new rebuttal sections
b.      Or say that you hadn’t gotten around to that yet in your first draft and make one up now to include in your next draft.
You can be a smart and intelligent person with or without a Baccalaureate degree. A degree just makes you feel good when you have achieved something pasted high school. It makes you feel worthier and accomplished at life. But does this make you intelligent? No, it does not because someone that cheated themselves in life can achieve the same degree that you just received.  They have serious and not to serious people. Some just come to college to satisfy their parents. And some come to benefit their lives. Your intelligence of the knowledge that you obtain and put to use makes the wise out comes that exist.

A degree does not make a person. It only shows that you went to school and did something with your life. Being intelligent brings the best part out of a person. Anything that is accomplished beyond college is worth more to everyone around you and you too. You can be serious but they are always people that are just sitting.
7.
THESE FOUR STEPS should allow you to get a start on your revision even though you aren’t getting your papers back from me until office hours Tuesday (if you want to come by) or class Wednesday.  They ask you to look at a few areas in order to complete this sheet, but they will also provide a good system for working with your entire paper over the course of the next week and a half, as sort of a self review process.  You can also use these considerations to ask your peer review partner about.

# 10

Claim: Yes, earning a Baccalaureate degree is a wonderful feeling but no it does not make you intelligent.

Reason: because a lot of people just do the miniumum things in school to just get by.And intelligence is the ability to understand and deal with new situations. So anyone can be intelligent without having a degree and some are in college past a baccalaureate degree and their smarts are not all there.

Warrant: There are some professionals that have many degrees but data is changing everyday and they may not know something that a student going to school may know.

ON Self Respect

Discussion questions for “On Self Respect” by Joan Didion
1)       Didion uses allusions to literature (that we may or may not have read) in order to support or illustrate her points.  What effect does this have on the reader?  Is it helpful? Is it alienating?
the effects that it has on the reader is larger accepted it makes the reader see how passionate she is about expressing how she feels on the way she thinks about things. The reader can either understand where she is coming from or they can be lost because they can not think past their own life itself. It can be helpful because they can understand how she is feeling and they can relate some way to how they can respond to it. Maybe. it can be alienating because someone can be feeling the same way and they do not know about it and they can misplace themselves beyond the world.

2)      List some statements that she clearly makes about having, or not having, self respect.  Are these based on assumptions that people would generally agree with?  For instance, she uses the example of committing adultery without asking forgiveness to illustrate “courage of their mistakes” and “character”.  What do we make of that?

Some statements are I hate careless people it takes two to make an accident. I put my head in a paper bag.   Yes people can agree with it because accidents happen sometimes it can be one or two people. But for the purpose that she is in it is definately two people.  I think that it can happen if someone ownes up to their mistakes and admit that they did do something wrong. Some people do not own up to what they do and it is not good at all. Just because you did something wrong the world does not hold it against you it take your conscienceness to eat you up inside.

3)      She maintains that having self respect is a “discipline,” a “habit of mind”.  She says that having self respect is a discipline “that can never be faked but can be developed , trained, coaxed forth”.  She also says that disciplines represent values that lie underneath them.  How are her statements about self respect as a discipline connected to the idea of building writing skills as a discipline or a habit of mind?

It connects hand in hand. You can be disciplined at both because you have to have the wants to be a well behaved writer and learn from the ways that you do write. And it takes a disciplined person to own up to what they do and the way that they do it.And you wrting skilla build up as the years go by just like self respect. You are not going to respect yourself as a person if you are not well developed in your eyes. Just like a person who loves writing they think that they are not very good until they are complimented on.
